The Tough Guys is the story about 11-year old Modulf who thinks he is a super hero. Every day he is bullied by the toughest guys at school. And that’s fine. Because if Modulf is the one being bullied – the other children won’t be. One day a new girl moves in next door, Lise. Lise does not agree with Modulf’s theories. She cares, and creates havoc in the ranks – and suddenly she is the one in the middle of the storm who must be saved. Modulf is forced to face his own situation – and do something about it.
The comedy follows Sam, as her life is turned upside down on a big night out. When reunited with her old college friends, Sam is forced to re-evaluate her life and constructs an elaborate façade in order to convince herself and her friends that she has it all. But once her dysfunctional yet devoted trio of best mates intervene, her carefully crafted charade begins to crumble amidst the shots, cigarettes, ciders and toilet transgressions. Faced with some very harsh realities, Sam must struggle to remain true to herself and reassess exactly what she wants from life.
Salvatore Granata is a rather poor man who lives with his wife, son and daughter in Calabria in Italy. They are astonished when they hear Salvatore signed a contract of five years and children of gastarbeiders are ought to work in the mines as soon they leave high school. Rocco meets Helena, the daughter of the local grocer shop. However, the man is a racist and forbids his daughter to play with Italian boys.
